The Church offers a number of Rites and Prayers that may be used to mark the death of a loved one, including Vigil and Mass Services. A Vigil Service is possible. It may be held in your own home or in the Church, and may be a Prayer Service or recitation of the Rosary. This is also the more appropriate time to share stories of the deceased. The Mass for Deceased is the major farewell liturgy and the church encourages you to use the Mass for your deceased relative (regardless of whether the person has been attending Mass regularly).
